Akira Kurosawa


He is known as a great movie director all over the world. He was born at Tokyo in 1910. He was absorbed in reading Russian literature in his junior high school student age. This influenced his skill as a movie director. His famous movies are “Shitinin no Samurai”, “Yojinbo”, “Kakushitoride no Sanakunin”, “Rashomon”, and more... Especially, “Shitinin no Samurai” was very popular all over the world, and many movie directors were influenced by it. Some of his work was made with foriegn movie studios. He won a Nobel prize in 1990. At that time, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg said that Akira Kurosawa is the greatest movie director in the world. He died in 1998. He is called “Sekai no Kurosawa” by many Japnese people.

Yasuziro Ozu

He was born in 1903 in Tokyo. When he was 9 years old, he moved in Mie. He was absorbed in going to the movie theater, so he often skipped class. He failed 3 university examinations. However, he became a substitute teacher. In 1923, he went to Tokyo and entered a movie studio. In 1927, he directed a movie for the first time. The movie's name is “Zange no Yaiba”. In the Second World War, he went to Singapore, so he watched a lot of movie. After the war, he directored his masterpiece. For example, “Baku-syu,” “Tokyo-Monogatari”, and more. He won a lot of prizes for these movies. He died in 1963.

Takashi Shimizu

He is one of the most famous movie directors in Japan. He likes to make horror movies, for example “TOMIE” and “SENRITSUMEIKYU”. Above all, scariest and mose popular movie is “THE JUON”. This movie is a ghostly story. In this movie, two ghosts appear. Their names are “Kayoko” and “Toshio”. Toshio is a little boy and Kayoko is a women who has long hair. They are ghost parents. Their scary point is that they are bloody and their skin color is snow white. And they killed a lot of people by the power of a curse. However, thers charactors are very popular in Japan. Kei Shimizu made a JUON SERIES in U.S. That movie title is “The Grudge”. It was popularized in the HOLLYWOOD, so Takashi Shimizu is famous all over the world.
